چکیده

Cryotherapy, first advocated by Bietti (I933), has been widely accepted as a useful means of achieving adhesion in the treatment of retinal detachment. It was later popularised by Lincoff, McLean, and Nano (i964), who subsequently used this form of treatment in their modifications of the Custodis procedure for the treatment of retinal detachment (Lincoff, Baras, and McLean, I965). Various complications of cryosurgery after its use in the treatment of retinal detachments have been described. Pigment fallout was observed by Abraham and Shea (I968), Johnston and Okun (i969), and Sudarsky and Yannuzzi (1970). Uveitis in the postoperative period was described by Lincoff and McLean (I966) and Abraham and Shea (i 968). The purpose of this study was to observe the incidence and clinical features of pigment fallout and postoperative uveitis, and to study the relationship of these complications to the severity of cryoapplication.

Vasoproliferative tumours of the retina.

BACKGROUND Vasoproliferative tumours of the retina (VPTR) are benign tumours of unknown origin, occurring mostly in otherwise healthy patients. VPTR may be associated with other chorioretinal diseases, such as uveitis. The tumours, which histologically represent reactive gliovascular proliferations, are characterised by a pink to yellow appearance on funduscopy and are accompanied by exudative ...

A Comparative Study Between 595-Nm Pulsed Dye Laser with Cutaneous Compression and Cryotherapy in the Treatment of Solar Lentigines

Background: Although cryotherapy is still the first-line therapy for solar lentigines, due to side effects such as post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH), especially in patients with darker skin types, pigment specific lasers should be considered as initial treatment. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of cryotherapy in comparison with 595-nm pulsed dye laser (PDL)...

New Trends in the Management of Inflammatory Choroidal Neovascularisation

Choroidal neovascularisation (CNV) is one of the most severe causes of visual impairment in patients with uveitis. The disruption of homeostasis between the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) and Bruch’s membrane can generate a vicious circle leading to choroidal neoangiogenesis. Both non-infectious and infectious uveitis can present CNV as a possible complication. Infectious uveitis is provoked ...

Fulminant proliferative vitreoretinopathy in syphilitic uveitis.

BACKGROUND Syphilis is a reemerging sexually transmitted disease that can lead to any type of intraocular inflammation. Prognosis of syphilitic uveitis after appropriate therapy is classically regarded as favorable. However, visual threatening complications may develop, rarely including rhegmatogenous/tractional retinal detachment (R/T RD) and proliferative vitreoretinopathy. FINDINGS We repo...

Differential effect of macrophage depletion on two forms of experimental uveitis evoked by pigment epithelial membrane protein (EAPU), and by melanin-protein (EMIU).

The purpose of the present study was to clinically and histologically investigate the influence of macrophage depletion on the development of experimental autoimmune pigment epithelial membrane protein-induced uveitis (EAPU), and experimental melanin-protein induced uveitis (EMIU) in the Lewis rat. EAPU is mainly characterized by pigment epitheliitis. Posterior mononuclear cell accumulations en...
